Hurry! Someone call the WHAMbulance!
It has been a while since we posted pics of our battle wounds. Here are some of our favorites in case there was any doubt in your mind that roller derby was a full-contact sport. WARNING: Don’t scroll down if you’re squeamish!

Thanks to our medics for volunteering their time and expertise at our bouts and scrimmage practices:
We also appreciate the generous services of our sponsor, Dr. Mike Rogerson. Rogerson Chiropractic is a family and sports chiropractic clinic in Santa Clara.
A successful league takes hard work both on and off the track. Many people donate their time and talents to make SVRG a success. Let’s give a shout out to all the camera-happy fans who make us look fabulous! Ever try to take a picture of skaters in action and end up with nothing but a blurry shot? It’s not easy to capture the moment in sharp focus when a blocker flies through the air. These are the people who make it happen.
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but our league photographers are priceless! Take Adrian Valenzuela, for example. His photo of SVRG won Derbylife.com’s 2011 Photo of the Year contest for the best color category!

This photo is now a final contender for the 2011 Photo of the Year. Go to Derbylife.com and vote for #3 by Adrian Valenzuela by January 25th.
Derbylife.com has also featured league photographer Donalee Eiri’s fantastic Derbyverse gallery. Imagine a world where roller derby athletes peer down at you from billboards and grace the walls of art galleries…that’s Derbyverse!

Go gaga over Donalee’s derby gallery, arrange a shoot, or purchase a photo over at Photography by D.E.sign’s website. Be sure to show Donalee some derby love at our next bout!
We need your help for our bout this weekend! Details:
We have a 50’s sock hop themed bout this Saturday evening, June 13th, and would like to find an Elvis Impersonator to help announce the game. No knowledge of the game and rules is needed. We will have more knowledgable co-announcers for the details. Elvis would be adding character to the game and interacting with the crowd. If you would like to even lip synch a song during half time, we would love that.
You would need to be present from 5:00 to 9:00 at San Jose Skate at 397 Blossom Hill Rd. in San Jose. We are a nonprofit and this bout is a benefit for the YWCA so we can’t pay very much. We would really prefer to have someone volunteer their time and we can give you advertisement space in our program and even our website. We may be able to compensate some transportation expenses. It’s a great opportunity to showcase your stuff in front of 900 people. If interested please contact Liz at (408) 499-9426.
SVRG is currently looking for volunteers to help us staff our home bouts. Like most roller derby leagues, SVRG is totally DIY, so that means that our other skaters, friends, families, and fans are required to help everything run!
Volunteers help us set up for the bout, work various jobs during the bout, or help break things down afterwards. Aside from the joy of knowing that you’re helping support your team, you will also be able to view at least half of the bout for free (whichever half you aren’t working.)
If you are interested in helping us out, please contact Smack Dahlia at firstname.lastname@example.org and earn our eternal gratitude!
